Shopping in the British Virgin Islands
Contrary to popular
belief, the BVI offers many diverse shops, art galleries, gift boutiques
and jewellery stores in which to browse. Colourful island apparel and
T-shirts make wonderful gifts to take back home as a reminder of your
trip to paradise. Visit some of the art shops for some truly magnificent
island creations from oil paintings, watercolours and unique works of
art made of steel drums or coconut shells! Of course there are jewellery
stores and small gift shops with imaginative local handicrafts too!
Who says you have to shop in St. Thomas and relax in the BVI ... you
can do it all right here in the British Virgin Islands!

Grocery & Convenience Stores - Yacht Provisioning
There are several,
high quality grocery stores and yacht provisioners in the British Virgin
Islands. You can find almost anything you'd like from gourmet foods
to peanut butter and jelly. There is no need to lug foodstuffs with
you from home. Prices are in the range of 10 to 20% higher than in the
US or Canada for most foodstuffs due to shipping costs. Liquor, beer
and cigarettes are very inexpensive by comparison as they are not taxed.
For the purpose
of these listings, we have broken the stores into five classifications:
- Supermarkets
- carry just about everything you would expect from a supermarket
at home.
- Small markets
and grocers - carry all staples, meats, seafood, fresh vegetables,
liquor, beer, wine and (in some cases) specialty & gourmet items.
- Specialty Stores
(should be self explanatory.)
- Convenience stores
are small shops which offer a gamut of items; some food, some convenience
items, that sort of thing.
- Yacht Provioners
have been identified with an asterisk beside their name. These companies
specialize in providing groceries and drink for term charters or villa
rentals and some provide free delivery. Guests may arrange to preorder
food and have it delivered to their yacht or villa upon arrival.
