Ultralight Adventures If you would like to go scuba diving while visiting or on charter in the British Virgin Islands, there are several companies from whom you may rent equipment or organize a rendezvous dive if you would prefer not to have to carry all that equipment on board. Note: There is an excellent book available from Rainbow Visions Photography (or any of the BVI SCUBA diving shops) which details dozens of BVI dive sites complete with photos. This is "the" definitive underwater guide to the British Virgin Islands. Diving The British Virgin Islands - $18.95 by Jim and Odile Scheiner. In addition, the BVI Dive Operators Association have produced a concise dive site chart which includes all major dive sites in the British Virgin Islands. The chart details depth & location of each site as well as locations of the various scuba diving operations in the BVI which offer air refills and equipment rentals. The chart (which is not for navigational purposes) is offered for sale at all scuba outlets throughout the BVI for $10.00 and can be shipped to you in advance if you would like to plan your diving itinerary while on charter in the BVI by simply contacting any of the Dive operators. The fishing companies listed below will be happy to share some of their secrets with you and will supply equipment as well as fishing permits. If you'd like to take a day or half day to check out the BVI fishing grounds ... give them a call!
All visitors wishing to do any recreational fishing in BVI waters are required to obtain a $10.00 fishing permit which is valid for one month from date of issue and is available from the BVI Department of Natural Resources & Labour. You may contact them directly at (284) 494-3701 ext. (2147). This is not a long involved process and should only take you a few minutes. The office is located in the Government Administration Complex (second floor), Road Town, Tortola. Please note: Spear fishing is not permitted in the British Virgin Islands. The use of SCUBA equipment to capture or remove any marine animal or coral is against the law. Fishing within the boundaries of any marine park is strictly forbidden. Water Sport Rentals - Windsurfing, Kayaking, Surfing, etc. Where there's great sailing ... there's fabulous windsurfing. There are also some great surfing spots in the BVI. Several BVI companies offer small sailboat, windsurfing and kayak rentals as well as various other watersports equipment.
