As the British Virgin Islands has opened its doors to the rest of the world, much of the world's cuisine has become available in the BVI for guests and visiting yachtsmen. You will find a wide array of local style and Caribbean food, prepared in the manner and tastes of the generations before. Local fish and vegetable condiments are ever ready and very tasty. International cuisine of Thailand, France, Italy, UK, America, Cuba, China, as well as the ethnic dishes of Creole & Cajun exist in abundance. The Islands are filled with fine BBQ, Creative Caribbean Fusion, American Bistro, Pizzas and of course, the ever popular "Cheeseburger in Paradise". Over the past 8 years, the BVI National Culinary team, made up of chefs from all over the British Virgin Islands, has won bronze twice, silver five times and gold in 1997 during the prestigious "Taste of the Caribbean" Culinary Competition. The 2000 event boasted 2 BVI teams, which took both the gold and bronze medals. This competition takes place each November in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida when 32 (plus) teams from all Caribbean nations meet to compare their talents. These same creative
